Q. Under which circumstances do I need the U220i Impact Printer?A. You will always need a U220i Impact Printer for KDS regardless if you are using single or multi station..
Q. If I want to use a multi-station Epson KDS, how should I set up the expansion boxes?A. When you use expansion boxes for multi-station setups, the main U220i will not drive a display. It will act as the controller of the KDS system.
Q. How many KDS devices can be used at once?A. Up to 9 KDS stations can be used.
Q. Could I purchase multiple U220i Impact Printers?A. The Epson KDS system can support multiple printers which can also drive a display (when not acting as the master controller of the system). There are some circumstances where you'd want multiple U220i's. Some examples are:
- A prep station that's limited in space. So you send print jobs to the U220i printer and want the items shown on the expo screen and automatically bumped.
- You want the print on bump feature of the KDS implemented at a specific station.
Q. How do I configure the KDS system?A. You must use the KDS Configuration Tool from Epson. The software requires a windows computer to run.
Q. Can CAKE provide support for the Epson KDS?A. Support is very limited as we do not have direct access to the KDS system. You must take responsibility for configuring the KDS. If you are having an issue be sure to make sure all devices are connected to the network and powered on. If you confirm everything is, you should try power cycling the master U220i.
Q. I don't know much about how computers work, can I set this up myself?A. We do not recommend this. We highly recommend that that person who configures the KDS knows basic networking (IP address assignments), firmware loading, and being comfortable with a wide variety of configuration settings.
