Troubleshooting Tips

CAKE Router Not Receiving Internet Connection (Red Globe Icon)

If the globe icon on the CAKE Router is red, it indicates a connectivity issue. Try the following steps:

  1. Confirm that the Ethernet cable is properly connected:
    • One end should be plugged into the blue WAN port on the CAKE Router.
    • The other end should be plugged into a LAN port on your restaurant’s internet modem.
  2. If the issue persists, try using a different ethernet cable.
  3. If the issue persists this may be an issue with your internet modem. Contact your internet service provider to check the following:
    • Ensure a DHCP connection is active.
    • Verify that ports 22, 80, 123, and 8443 are open.
    • Confirm that firewalls are disabled.
    • Check if the ISP can detect the CAKE Router using its MAC address (located on the CAKE Router).

Network Issues

If devices are not connecting or communicating properly:

  1. Double-check that all Ethernet cables are securely connected to their respective ports.
  2. Ensure the Netgear Switch is powered on and all connected devices show a stable link light.

Printer Errors

If a printer is not functioning as expected:

  1. Ensure the printer is connected to the network via Ethernet.
  2. Verify that the printer is configured on the CAKE POS. Refer to the Configuring Printers on the CAKE POS article for setup instructions.

Cash Drawer Not Opening

If the cash drawer is not opening during transactions:

  1. Ensure the cash drawers RJ-12 cable is securely connected to the cash drawer port on the bottom of the Epson Thermal Printer.
  2. Confirm the thermal printer is powered on and operational.

Error: “Payment Cube Not Detected”

If the POS displays this error:

  1. Verify that the Payment Cube is plugged into a USB port on the neck of the POS terminal.
  2. If connected, try unplugging the USB cable and plugging it into a different USB port.

FAQs

Q: Can our restaurant's modem be used instead of the CAKE Router?

A: No, the CAKE Zyxel Router is essential for your network. It not only provides internet connectivity but also acts as the hub that links all CAKE devices, enabling seamless communication.

Q: Can the POS or printers be set up wirelessly?

A: No, all CAKE POS terminals and printers must be hardwired to the CAKE Router via Ethernet cables.

Q: Can I purchase an additional network switch for my CAKE network?

A: Yes. While the Netgear Switch included in your CAKE Kit is complimentary, additional switches are not available in the CAKE Shop. You can purchase any unmanaged (dummy) network switch from an office supply store for use with your CAKE network.

Q: Can I perform the setup myself, or do I need professional IT support?

A: The CAKE system can be set up independently using detailed guides and resources. However, if you prefer professional assistance, CAKE has partnered with Best Buy for nationwide on-site POS installation. Learn more and request an installation here: Best Buy Installation Service.

Q: I have additional CAKE hardware not covered in the installation articles. Where can I find setup instructions?
